Sputnik 40's batteries have died and it has stopped transmitting as of Dec 30. However, there is a good opportunity to spot it visually tomorrow morning Jan 6. It has gradually caught up again to MIR and will slowly pass about 15 miles below it tomorrow. It should be around 6+ magnitude and requires binoculars to spot.
