Here are some spectacular images of the Falcon 9 fuel dump that came
across my twitter feed via Daniel Fischer. Some image show very
distinct spiral structures. Could it be that SpaceX intentionally puts
the upper stage in a tumble or a longitudinal spin after the de-orbit
burn?

This Southbound sun-synchronous launch trajectory from CCAFS could
regularly lead to similar sightings in the future, as the first
revolution passes directly over North America. Launches using this
trajectory with North America in twilight could provide opportunities
to observe this more often.
