A person in Nova Scotia, Canada, reported to an astronomy.com
discussion group that he saw a "mystery smudge" to the right 
(west) of Orion:

Unfortunately, most of eastern North America was cloudy, and
the event occurred before dark arrived farther west.  It was
still astronomical twilight here at 1:22 UTC.
