Thanks to Kevin Fetter who keeps me updated about satellite transits I knew of a great pass of Milstar 3 across the moon as seen from my driveway. It occurred shortly after 5 AM this morning. Unfortunately I could not see the faint dot. I was looking at only the barely visible dark side of the moon and the immediate region of the sky with my 5 inch f-10 scope at 50X. The atmosphere was clear but with turbulence--warm houses all around surrounded by snow--cold snow that is. :~) My details and the satellite's details are as follows. Latitude: 42.473513 42 deg 28' 25" Longitude: -92.360413 92 deg 21' 37" Meters above sea level: 274 Milstar 3 15.0 4.5 4.5 3.8 d 1 25724U 99023A 04040.15462249 0.00000060 00000-0 74430-3 0 04 2 25724 28.2441 72.7847 2136997 330.9032 29.0963 9.37425449 01 Better luck next time. Now I know when the neighbor leaves for work. :~) Tom Iowa USA + + + ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe/Unsubscribe info, Frequently Asked Questions, SeeSat-L archive: http://www.satobs.org/seesat/seesatindex.html
