Ted Molczan recently produced an excellent analysis of the possibility that Columbia could have been imaged by USA 129. In "Release 03-078 - CAIB Advanced Sightings Team Status" from NASA is the following: <snip> "Examples of information that is being brought to bear are: * On orbit photography and analysis - DOD" <snip> Can this be taken as confirmation that the DoD did indeed image Columbia in orbit? There are two possibilities: Columbia was imaged from a space-based asset; or, Columbia was imaged from a high-resolution ground based tracking camera. Perhaps we will find out in due course if the outcome of the analysis (and the source material being analysed) is not classified.
