On Saturday 24 February 2001 at about 18:20 UTC Mir and ISS were seen *simultaneously* in several parts of France and in Belgium. Weather in southern France was better than further north, so most observations were made in the south. As far as I know, this was the first such encounter (and also the last) which not only was a spectacular sight but had symbolic character as well: old Mir meets its successor, shortly before its demise.
