Report from 16/2 (only just been able to get to a PC!)...
16/2, around 18:25 UT observed ISS rising in the West, bright
initially around -2. Atlantis appeared shortly after, ahead of ISS by
around 5 seconds (time) a magnitude fainter. They looked like they
would pass close to Venus, and did they! Atlantis passed very close,
but ISS was so close it disappeared momentarily in the planets glare!
If only I'd set my 'scope pointing at Venus.... Anyway both craft were
the same brightness and colour by this point, around mag 0 and
slightly orange.
Then they passed between Jupiter and Saturn, making a lovely
constellation. Sighting of the year, it'll take some beating.
Also last night (18/2) at 18:48UT observed a blinding flare from
Iridium 59 - at least mag -8.
Great weekend!
