Shuttle Atlantis was visible, in 10x70 binocs, at a max elevation of ~7 on
its climb to orbit from King, NC. Sky conditions were hazy, broken cirrus
in the east. NASA TV (in background) used to time observation. First
contact ~4.5 minutes after launch. Lost contact ~7:30 minutes after launch
(neighbor's roof). Missed MECO. (better site next launch will be found!)

Orange/yellow "ball of fire", streaking towards the NE. NASA TV reported
"400 miles down range" at first contact. Very impressive sighting,
    considering sky conditions.
