>> An object in a high orbit crossed Mir at 1420 UTC, producing >> 3 flares at mag 1.0 within a degree or two of the space station. >> >> Did anyone else observe these flares and what was the object? >> > I agree totally with Stephen's identification that this was 78-42A. As reported in my observations, I observed this object as an unknown (identified later) on: 2000 Feb 12 at 19:16:36 2000 Feb 13 at 18:48:25 2000 Feb 15 at 05:45:25 and 05:46:34 However, on the last transit, what attracted my attention to this object was a brief, intense flash to at least 0.0 magnitude. By the time positional observations were made it had settled to a 20 second variation between mag +4 and +7. ----------------------------------------------------------------- best wishes Russell Eberst @ North: 55 degrees, 56 minutes, 55 seconds: West: 3 degrees, 8 minutes, 18 seconds: 43metres (150 feet) above sea-level. 176726 Observations ----------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe from SeeSat-L by sending a message with 'unsubscribe' in the SUBJECT to SeeSat-L-request@lists.satellite.eu.org http://www2.satellite.eu.org/seesat/seesatindex.html
