Charles,

I made a tweak to the CelesTrak SATCAT search tool today to make determining which formerly restricted objects now have TLEs.

If you go to the search page at https://celestrak.com/satcat/search.php and put in “USA “ (no quotes) for the name, uncheck payloads (if you’re interested in associated objects), and set maximum responses to 1,000, you’ll get a list of 631 objects. You will probably also want to check On-Orbit (now 422 objects).

The tweak I made was to change what is shown in the Latest TLE column at the end. Instead of just showing “TLE” for all on-orbit objects and then requiring you to click on the link to see whether there is a TLE, it now only shows a link if there is a TLE in the past 30 days. And if there is a special code—like NEA for No Elements Available—it shows that.

There are a lot of NAVSTAR objects, so if you sort on Name (requires JavaScript enabled), you can get to what you probably want to know. You can page through the results to see which ones have TLEs or you can use the Search (filter) box in the upper right to focus on DMSP, UFO, MILSTAR, or whatever you might be interested in.

The same, of course, works for “OPS “.

I hope you find this feature useful. - TS

Looking at the TLE in Space Track, this object has an epoch of 1970. SeeSat has it as 18 298 so it is still in orbit.

Do some of these old objects have old TLEs (this one was apparently an orbit before it boosted to geosynch) that are relics of earlier versions of the Satellite Catalog?

Likely this one is NOT included in the now-released orbits - oops. I was hoping that some of those long retired objects might be included. Sigh.
