I am analyzing a couple of Project Blue Book cases from 1966 in an effort to decide whether the sightings were of a
    satellite re-entry.

One of the sightings was from an aircraft, reportedly "from position 050/100 of HNL TACAN". I understand that this is
bearing and range information relative the TACAN transmitter on Honolulu, but I do not know how to interpret the format,
and although there are countless references to the subject on the web, I have yet to find one that defines the above
    format.

    My questions are as follows:

    1. In the above example, what is 050, and what are its units?

    2. In the above example, what is 100, and what are its units?

    3. Is the bearing centred on HNL or the aircraft? Is there any possible ambiguity on this, based on the above quoted
    text?

    4. Has the HNL TACAN transmitter moved since 1966? If so, guidance on how to find its position in 1966 would be
    appreciated.

Please reply off-list. I will post a message with the consensus of the responses.

    Thank you,
    Ted Molczan
