I found a report from the vicinity of Nome, Alaska, that seems like it might be some sort of launch sighting on October 23. I found Kevin's brief note here of the launch on that date of an Oko satellite. On Jonathan's site I found that it was Cosmos 2340, launched from Plesetsk. Plesetsk is at about 40 east and 62 north. I believe Okos are in roughly 63-degree orbits, very highly eccentric, of course. The person reported the sighting to the west, seen in the morning. The report is here: http://cs.astronomy.com/asycs/forums/t/30002.aspx If the time matches, etc., it seems to me that maybe the person saw some segment of that launch.
