I love this list when there's a shuttle mission going on! I have been asked by a colleague about the suitability of the Meade DS-114EC 4 1/2" reflector for veiwing satellites, and in particular tracking them using the built in motor drives and a PC. I use binoculars, and have no experience with telescopes, but will likely have to set it up, and so I have a few questions. 1. Is this a reasonable telescope in general? 2. How useful will the motor drive bit be for tracking sats? 3. Is it possible to use a pc to directly control the scope to track satelites? (with/without AutoStar) 4. Would the tracking be smooth enough to get a meaningful image? 5. Is it worth getting the AutoStar if PC conrol is available? 5. Does anyone have any software recommendations? Any other comments are most welcome. The telescope will likely be used for some general astronomy too. Thanks in advance for your help.
