    Subject: {MPML} LCROSS astrometry?

      Hello all,

It's not a biggie, and don't bother unless you're at loose
ends for a target... but a little astrometry of LCROSS right
now would really firm up the impact prediction:

    http://home.gwi.net/~pluto/mpecs/lcross.htm

On 7 August, Peter Birtwhistle got some data that narrowed
the impact area to a short strip near the moon's south pole
(an image is provided at the above URL). It's been a while
since then, so some new data would probably shrink that region
    significantly.

As far as I know, I'm the only one using the data for an
impact prediction, and I'm assuming astrometry for LCROSS isn't
high on anyone else's priority list. Hence the lack of "drop
everything and observe this" urgency in this e-mail.

LCROSS is currently predicted to be about mag 14.5, at a
decent elongation. It'll soon be headed back to low elongations
and faintness, to stay that way until late September, a couple
of weeks before plowing into the moon.

    Thanks! -- Bill
