This is nonsense from beginning to end. Based on statements from Stephen
Maran, an author of a book on the subject, it contains statements like
"Pluto's lowered celestial status", "reduced from a full-fledged planet",
"stripped of its name" (I don't think that's true). It even hints that
global politics and an anti-American bias fueled the effort. Give me a
break! I don't see how being the smallest and 9th discovered planet is
"higher status" than being the first-discovered Kuiper belt object, or how
there is any inherent ranking in the status of different kinds of
astronomical objects. If status is so important, classify EVERYTHING as
a planet, the Sun, the Moon, Ceres, whatever the Tunguska object was, cosmic
rays, etc. Otherwise, let astronomers do their jobs using science and
reason, and leave sensationalism out of it.
