This afternoon output from Eutelsat W1 has dropped off completly as if the whole bird has been powered down. This is an active satellite used 24/7 for many broadcasts across europe. One of the main users APTN has just put out a notice advising subscribers that there has been some sort of problem with the bird. To me , it looks like a complete loss of power....the whole spectrum is dead. Ruling out solar activity , which is low at present , I can't really figure out why this should happen , unless the satellite has been hit by a complete power failure , including back-up facilities. I'm also ruling out Perseids activity....as Persius is in complete opposition to the location of the birds. Eutelsat themselves have not yet made a statement. Anyone heard any rumours ?
