I forgot to mention that after making a "one-legged route" in my GPS unit I simply drove to a point on the line. I parked my truck and walked to a place where the triangular pointer (the thing which designates where I am) was overlapping the diagonal route line. Using a GPSr in this way makes it very convenient to locate oneself if not knowing the exact predicted time of the encounter ahead of time is not a problem.
