Based upon observations by David Dunham, a few hours after 3rd stage separation: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mpml/message/12880 Messenger was about 2.5 magnitudes brighter than predicted by my formula. If the same difference held true last night, then it would have been closer to mag 16.5, then the mag 19 predicted by my formula, but still very faint.
