6/8 - A lovely night - best for at least 6 weeks.
Observed Lacrosse 3 (25017) passing near Vega at 21:57:25 UT - briefly
brightened from mag 2.5 to around 1, then 8 secs later brightened to
around mag -1 for 3 secs. The moment it faded a brilliant Perseid
meteor streaked across the sky from right overhead almost to the
Southern horizon at phenomenal speed - the fastest thing I've ever
seen on the sky! Very bright with a brief glittering trail.
Also observed Cosmos 955 (10362 - fast and bright). Tried for TiPS
(23937) but couldn't see it - I've still not managed to see this one.
Stayed out for an hour and counted 9 bright Persieds - its picking up.
Clear Skies (At last),
Matt Fawcett
