THE LAUNCH DATE OF H-II ROCKET #5 WITH COMETS CHANGED

                                                                Aug 6, 1997

                                                                    NASDA HQ
                                                               Tokyo, Japan

To examine the influences of the results of accident's
investigation of ADEOS (ADEOS-Advanced Earth Observing Satellite),
the National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA) decided to
change the launch date of COMETS (COMETS-Communication and
Broadcasting Engineering Satellites) from this summer to January
     or February 1998.

However, the committee on Technical Assessment of Space Activities
Commission and both TASK TEAM of Science and Technology Agency
(STA) and NASDA have been investigating the cause of malfunction
of ADEOS which has not be utilized since June 30, 1997, the
committees' researching and deliberation for necessity of new
measurements with consideration is prospected to be continued for
     more longer.

This issue was authorized by Space Activities Commission (SAC)
     today.

We are extremely sorry to disappoint the people concerned and a
     nation for this situation.
