Phase angle plays a role here.

On the first pass (19:59 UT) I observed, when it passed in the southern half of
the sky opposite the sun, it was photographically quite bright. On the second
pass (21:49 UT), in the northern half of the sky with less favourable phase
angle, it was much fainter.
