I have seen similar phenomena with both the naked eye and with binoculars.  A 
single flash with no follow up.  You wonder if your retina just got smacked with 
a cosmic ray (quite common for an astronaut).

Worth taking a look at this site (Swift) to see if there was a correlation.  A 
long shot, it is far more likely to be a straight in meteor or a bit of space 
debris. - At mag 5.8 it would barely be a naked 
eye object.  But it would be possible to see a GRB with binoculars.
