    Hi,

I am a complete amateur to satellite observation, but have seen a fly over
of the space station in the mid-nineties with my naked eyes and a few others
    since.

Last night I stepped outside at 8:45pm EDT and noticed a strange object in
the sky near the constellation Orion. I live in North Smithfield, Rhode
Island. The object was moving very, very slowly in a northerly direction. I
could keep my telescope aimed at it without having to skew for a minute or
more. After observing it for a while, I retired to the house, but came back
out over an hour later and it was still in view, although farther north and
closer to the horizon. It was brighter than anything else in the sky and
appeared to be flashing/pulsating several different colors: blues, reds and
whites. There were several aircraft near it at different times and it looked
nothing like them. I aimed my Celestron Nexstar 80 GT telescope at it, and
it just appeared as a bright point of light. This was at 32X with a Barlow
lens attached. I was wondering if you had any idea what this object could
    have been?
