The May/June 2005 issue of Night Sky, published by Sky Publishing (publishers of Sky & Telescope), has a very nice, well-illustrated five-page article called "Take a 'Sat-seeing' Tour", pp. 42-46. (Okay, the title's not the greatest, but the cover says, "Your Mission: Spot the Space Station in Orbit".) It's by the magazine's editor, J. Kelly Beatty, and covers various aspects of satellite observing quite well for a beginning audience, in four pages of text. (One page is an close-up of the ISS in orbit.). The magazine is only a year old, and I'm not sure how widely available it is, but maybe it's in major bookstores.
