I suspect that unless there was a faster yaw rate, the yaw maneuver caused to part to separate at a very low rate and then drag started pulling it away until it was noticed by radar. By that time, it had built up a separation velocity of the 5m/s. In that case, the actual separation time would be some time before the orbits coincide.
