Dimming?

    I saw the Shuttle and ISS last night from Houston.  Picked them up about 10
    degrees off the horizon (Shuttle -1.0 mag, ISS -0.5 mag, approx.) and
    followed them until they dimmed for 2 seconds (one after the other), and
    then blinked out just north of Leo.   Did they dim because their reflected
    light going toward my eye was being reduced because of the Earth's
    atmosphere before they moved into the Earth's full shadow?
