    Its depends in the orbit inclination
    STS-99 ( I saw it a few mins after launch,  over Nottingham) was launched
    into an orbit of 57 degrees. The 101 launch to ISS is at a much lower
    inclination (circa 30) so is not readily visible from 53N.
    High inclination shuttle launces are rare unfortunately :-(
