I saw aurora for the first time here in New York City, just after sunset,
    until
around 0040 zulu when I saw Iridium 15 flare.

A red halo. Green in the middle.

The red band started in the northwest, and ended in the northeast. The
setting moon & planets were in the band.

It was about one hand length wide, that is, I held my arm out, my hand
was about the width of the red band. The band was also straight above
    me.

The green was in the halo, at times, it looked like spokes, like a bicycle
    wheel.
