I've been on this list for a while but haven't sent a formal
introduction, so here goes:

In my real job, I'm an electrical engineer working on digital designs for
communications equipment. I've worked on on geostationary satellite
design and a satellite communication terminal design, among others. At
home, I wrote the satellite tracking program OrbiTrack for the Macintosh.

I've watched satellites pass over for at least 20 years. I live on the
west coast of Florida in the US (St. Petersburg) and try to watch as many
launches from Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center as possible.
I've been fortunate to see many neat things such as Solar Max
approximately 500 feet from the shuttle right after release, the shuttle
and the Tether satellite 500 feet apart, an OMS engine firing right
overhead.

I have numerous ideas for making better observations and other ways to do
it. I just need more time.
